Week 4
This week in lab we altered our design and decided to incorporate alternating solar panels and windows on two sides of our buildings. The Sun patterns will be investigated so that we can find the optimum angles for the solar panels to collect sunlight. After finding the sun patterns and intensities we will calculate the best sizes and dimensions for each panel. The Geothermal heat pumps system was chosen to be horizontal instead of vertical so that it does not interfere with the existing pump and pipe systems. We chose our windows to be triple pane awning windows with argon insets so that less heat can move through the windows. We also continued to edit our layout sketch based on new information. As well as decided on our possible envelope materials and used them to calculate our k-tot value
We also continued to work on the design or our green roof and rainwater collection system. We chose to use drip irrigation for the watering of the garden using two soil moisture sensors, one on each side of the plot, to monitor the soil and control our irrigation schedule. Throughout the rest of this week, we will continue our research into irrigation and choose a valve system and water collection system for the design. We also plan to research more about grey water collection systems and how we can best collect and make use of this water.
